MTA partnered with UC Davis Health, Smith Group, Cambridge CM & DPR Construction on the new four-story, 268,228 square foot progressive design build project. The new outpatient surgery center is located at the intersection of 48th and X streets, “48X Complex” reflecting its location in Sacramento. This project will support a preliminary program of 14 operating rooms, 59 pre- and post-operative recovery bays, 14 single occupant 23-hour recovery rooms, 96 clinical exam rooms, and 19 clinical treatment rooms. The building will also include public spaces, clinical support, operations space (sterilization, pharmacy, etc.) imaging space, physical therapy space as well as administration support space to facilitate patient support and education.

The facility is designed to exceed UC Sustainable Practices Policy energy efficiency goals and will be LEED Certified, reflecting its focus on healthy, highly efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings.  MTA partnered with the design team over the last 3 years and provided all furniture in the building including the exam room casework and nurses' stations. The 48X facility will be one of the largest outpatient surgical centers in the U.S., in terms of the number of operating rooms and procedure rooms, and the most technologically advanced ambulatory facilities in the U.S. It is planned to open for patients in July 2025.

MTA has been fortunate to assist with several large projects for UC Davis Health and have been working with their planning and construction management team to develop MillerKnoll furniture standards. MTA is also working on the planning of the California Tower which will add approximately one million square feet of space and connect the new tower to the existing tower. This expansion project includes a 14-story hospital tower and 5-story pavilion that will deliver superior care for Northern Californians and adapt to meet the evolving needs of the community.  It will include new operating rooms, an imaging center, and new facilities for existing pharmacy and burn care units. This project is slated to open in 2029.
